The
administration of Alh. Ibrahim Idris
inherited a Ministry of Works that
had no facilities to prosecute or
execute projects. All the
Departments of the Ministry were not
functional and the professionals
just went to offices to treat files
without the exposure to field work
experience. Alh. Ibrahim Idris in
his determination to provide social
services to the people of the State
repositioned the Ministry of Works
to enable it render services to the
people of the State.

Roads
and Bridges:
Prior to the birth of this
administration, State roads were in
a very sorry state of disrepair
thereby hampering economic and
social activities. Movement of
people and goods within the State
became very difficult because of the
condition of these roads . The
volume of traffic increased
tremendously as a result of the
location of the State which is the
gate-way to the Southern States of
Nigeria. Because of the lean
resources of the State and the
volume of money needed for road
construction, the Government
embarked on road construction in
Phases. The first step was the
construction of one major road in
each of the three Senatorial
Districts of the State
Some bridges
that needed urgent attention were
also awarded along side the three
major roads:-

Subsequently, township roads were
constructed in Lokoja the Capital
city and other feeder roads in the
Local Government Areas. It is the
intention of Government that all the
Local Government Areas will benefit
from the road policy of Government.

Meme Bridge, Lokoja |
 |
The
administration of Alh. Ibrahim Idris
embarked on the construction of Meme
bridge in Lokoja. The said bridge
had been the cause of sorrow for so
many families because of the fatal
accidents recorded on the bridge
which was constructed in the 1950s.
The Construction work on the bridge
has since been completed.
Transportation:
Kogi Travelers, the
institution responsible for movement
of persons within and outside the
State had ten (10) dilapidated buses
in its fleets. The organization
became a drain pipe because all the
revenue realized from the use of the
vehicles went into the repairs of
the said vehicles. This resulted in
several months of unpaid wages and
salaries of workers. The
administration of Alh. Ibrahim Idris
set out to reposition this sector by
the provision of forty-eight (48)
new buses to facilitate movement of
people within and outside the State
at affordable cost. The backlog of
debt owed the workers have been paid
and the Mechanical Section of the
outfit re-established for the
maintenance of the vehicles. The
State Transport Service has been
properly reconstituted for proper
service delivery.
